Fortunately, the Archos 405 comes preinstalled with system recovery tools that allow you to repair your 405's system without having to rely on expensive technical support or repair services.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn on the Archos by pressing the power button at the top of the device.

  2. 2

Press down and hold the "TV/LCD" button once the screen turns on to access the "Recovery Mode."

  3. 3

Use the arrow buttons to select the "Repair Disk" option and press "OK." Press "OK" again to perform the recovery of the Archos 405. The utility will repair the file structure on the hard drive and the Archos will be restarted.

Tips and warnings

  • If the Disk Recovery does not fix the problem, repeat the process but select the "Format Disk" option in the recovery mode. Unlike the Disk Recovery, the Format Disk option will erase all the settings and data saved to the Archos hard drive.
