Windows requires the user to activate the software after installation. This helps Microsoft ensure that the copy is genuine. To accommodate users that do not have Internet access, Windows offers activation by phone. This automatic system generates a special code that is based on the unique product code displayed by Windows during the activation process. Once the user enters the code received from the call centre, his copy of Windows is fully activated and ready for use.
