PPStream is a video-sharing website that broadcasts television shows and movies from China. With PPStream, viewers in any country can stream even live Chinese TV stations through their Web browsers. Though many video-capturing programs can capture streaming video from the Internet, most of them are not capable of capturing PPStream video. Only two streaming video recorders, PPRecorder and HiDownload, list PPStream among their supported websites. You can use either of these video-capturing programs to download PPStream video to a computer.
Download and install the PPRecorder, also called the P2P TV Recorder, from the PPRecorder website (see Resources.) No free version of the PPRecorder is available. The download fee is £19.40 as of October 2010.
Open the PPStream website in your Web browser. Double-click any of the channels listed in the PPStream program list to open that channel. When the PPStream channel opens, Windows Media Player opens automatically to play back the video.
Right-click the PPStream program name that appears in the Media Player playlist. Click on "Properties" in the menu that comes up to open the "Properties" window. Highlight the URL that appears next to "Location" in the "File" tab of the "Properties" menu, right-click the highlighted text and choose "Copy."
To launch PPRecorder, click "Start," "All Programs" and the "P2P TV Recorder" program name. When the PPRecorder opens, right-click in the "URL" box and choose "Paste" to paste the URL you copied from the Media Player "Properties" window. Put a check mark in the box to the left of "Record immediately" and click "OK" to begin downloading the PPStream video.
Click on the PPStream program that you are recording in the list of PPStream videos, and choose "Stop" to end the recording process. The recorded PPStream video files automatically save into the "PPStream" folder on the computer's C: drive.
Download and install HiDownload capture software from the HiDownload website (see Resources.) Trial versions of both HiDownload Pro and HiDownload Platinum are available. Both versions capture PPStream video.
Launch your Web browser, and open the PPStream video that you want to download by double-clicking the video in the PPStream media list. Windows Media Player should launch automatically and begin playing the video.
Right-click the name of the video in the Media Player playlist, and choose "Properties" from the menu. Go to the "File" tab, highlight the URL by "Location," right-click the text and select "Copy."
Open HiDownload by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "HiDownload." Right-click in the URL box when HiDownload opens, and choose "Paste." Make sure "Windows Media Streaming" is selected in the "Streams" box.
Click the button with the three dots next to "Save to," and choose the folder on the hard drive where you want to save the captured video. Put a check mark in the box by "Download immediately," and click "OK" to begin capturing. Once the video has finished playing, click "Stop" to stop the download and save the downloaded video in the folder you chose.
