The .CAB file extension is used for Windows cabinet files, which are archive format files that store data that has been compressed. Compressed files take up less space on the computer's hard drive where they are stored. If the hard drive is damaged, the files stored there, including CAB files, can be corrupted. You cannot view corrupted CAB files. There are free programs available for download that can repair corrupted CAB and other files.

Repair corrupted CAB files using the program Unstoppable Copier, which you can download for free online (see Resources). Once you have installed the program, open it on the computer. Select the "C:/" drive from the drive selection menu; Unstoppable Copier will scan the drive for corrupted files and repair them. The repaired CAB and other files will be returned to the hard drive.
Download the freeware program ICE ECC to fix damaged CAB files (see Resources). ICE ECC can also protect files from future corruption. Install and run the program on the PC. When prompted, select the CAB file type as the file to be repaired; ICE ECC will scan the computer for all corrupted CAB files and repair them.
