Playing over a Local Area Network (LAN) can help you avoid many of the problems associated with online multiplayer games, including lag and connection issues. "Battlestations: Midway" for the PC supports LAN multiplayer for between two and eight players. Although some players have experienced crashes when attempting to join LAN games, there is a workaround that addresses this problem.

Start "Battlestations: Midway" normally and, from the main menu, select "Multiplayer," "LAN Game," then "Create Server."

Set the number of open player slots.

Press the arrow buttons in the game lobby, or use the arrow keys on your keyboard, to select the map. Once a map is selected you, and the other players, will be able to access the briefing screen.

Highlight your player slot and select your units.

Select "Ready" once you are ready for the game to start. Once all other players have selected "Ready" you will be able to press "Start" and the game will begin.

Start "Battlestations: Midway" normally and, from the main menu, select "Multiplayer," "LAN game," then "Join Server."

Click on "Refresh" if the server you want to join is not appearing on the list.

Click on the name of the server you want to join then select "Join."

Choose "Select Player Slot" once the host has selected a mission, choose your slot and then return to the lobby.

Select "Ready" and wait for the host to select "Start."

Navigate to your "Battlestations: Midway" folder and rename the file "Battlestationsmidway.exe."

Navigate to your "Battlestations: Midway" demo folder, copy the file named "Battlestationsmidway.exe" in that folder and paste it to your normal "Battlestations: Midway" folder. If you do not currently have the "Battlestations: Midway" demo, you can acquire it by following the link in the Resources section.

Run the executable you copied from the demo folder and continue normally.

WARNING

Because the LAN Crash workaround involves using the executable file from the demo, you will be unable to play the "Battlestations: Midway" single-player campaign while using the demo's executable.
