Garmin's line of GPS navigation devices, such as the Nuvi 660, offers audible driving directions, travel tools and a points of interest database featuring restaurants, grocery stores and hotels. For most Garmin navigation devices, updates are released once per year. Once a map update has been purchased, either as a download or on a DVD, the Nuvi 660 can be connected to the computer, and the update may be applied.

  1. 1

Connect the Nuvi 660 to the computer using a USB cable. Insert the update DVD in the computer if you purchased it in this format, or open the file if it was downloaded.

  2. 2

Click "Next," then click the check box to accept the Software and Data License Agreement. Click "Next." The update installer checks if the Nuvi 660 requires any software or firmware updates. Software updates are installed automatically. For firmware updates, disconnect the Nuvi 660 when prompted, then reconnect it when the prompt is given again. Click "Next" when finished.

  3. 3

Enter the Product Key that was printed on the green sticker on the DVD case, or that was given to you upon purchasing the update as a download. Click "Install." The update may take about two hours. Disconnect the Nuvi 660 when the update is complete.

  4. 4

Verify that the update was successful by turning on the Nuvi 660. Tap the wrench icon, then touch "Map" and "Map Info." The latest map version is displayed.
