Ademco Alarm Systems can be confusing to use, especially if you don't have access to the operative codes used to perform the various programming functions of the system. Ademco has made it easy to actually program the system once you know the right information, as almost all Ademco systems use the same basic procedure for setting the codes. Your initial hurdle is accessing the programming code. After you have this code you can create the master code you will use to operate your Ademco Security System.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- Contact number for central station monitoring
- Ademco security panel
- Ademco keypad
- Phillips screwdriver
- Panel key
- Pencil and paper
Contact the monitoring service for your alarm system and request that they put your system on "Test". This will allow you to work on the panel and make the code changes without setting off any alarms.
Find your alarm panel, it is a square, tan box.
Open the panel using the key and disconnect the AC transformer.
Locate the wire attached to the screw terminal on the left side of the circuit board. Unscrew the screw and wire with the Phillips head screwdriver.
Unplug the battery sitting on the bottom floor inside the box. Wait ten seconds then plug it back in. Secure the wire to the screw, then plug the AC transformer back in.
Wait one minute and then simultaneously press down on the * and # keys on your keypad. Let the keys go and examine the display. You should see the digits "00" or "20." These digits signify the transition into installation mode.
Push down on the # key, and then enter the two digits you just saw on the display screen. Grab your pencil and paper. Look at the keypad and wait until you see a series of numbers. Write down the four double-digit numbers, then erase the zeros from the series. The numbers you have left are the programming code.
Create your master code by entering the * key then the two digits from Step 6. You can now input whatever four digit code you prefer as a master code. The master code allows you to arm and disarm your alarm system.
Push the * key, and then press down two times on the 9 key to exit the programming mode. Contact central station monitoring again and have them take the system off "Test" mode.
