How to reinstall scardsvr

Updated July 19, 2017

The "Scardsvr" files are the files necessary to run the smart card services on a Windows 7, Vista or XP computer. Smart cards look like a credit card, but they are used in financial transactions. They are similar to a credit card, because they let you purchase merchandise, but they use an electronic strip to secure your information. You can run this service on a Windows computer, but if the files corrupt, you must uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "cmd" into the search text box and press "Enter." This opens your Windows command line.

Type "sc delete scardsvr" into the command line. Press "Enter." This completely removes the drivers from the computer.

Type "sysocmgr.exe /i %windir%\inf\caller.inf" into the text box. Press "Enter." This reinstalls the service onto your computer from the pre-existing Windows drivers in the "inf" directory.

Reboot your computer. When the computer boots up, the smart card drivers are available.
