After an extended period of use, your HP Officejet 7410 printer may become misaligned, which will cause your prints to be off centre or have odd colour configurations. The printer includes an automatic alignment correcting procedure, but its possible for the procedure to fail if there are other problems with the printer. Fixing a failed alignment is done by troubleshooting several different hardware configurations before attempting a new cartridge alignment.

  1. 1

Grip the bottom of the control panel at the middle of the Officejet printer. Lift upward until the entire top half locks into place so the internal components are visible.

  2. 2

Wait five seconds for the inkjet cartridge carriage to move into position at the centre of the printer. Press down the plastic lid on the top of both the colour and black cartridges. Pull both cartridges out of the carriage.

  3. 3

Check the bottom edge of both cartridges to ensure the short strip of tape has been completely removed. Pull off the tape if any portion remains. Push the cartridges back into position in their corresponding carriages and push down the plastic lids on top to lock them in place.

  4. 4

Push down the top half of the printer into its original position. Locate the small plastic paper indicator on the paper feed at the back of the printer. Slide the indicator out to the edge of the paper feed if you are using normal sized paper, or slide the indicator to the appropriate length if you are using a smaller size paper.

  5. 5

Tap the "Menu" button on the front control panel. Use the arrow button to navigate to the "Maintenance" option and tap "OK." Highlight "Clean Print Cartridges" and tap "OK."

  6. 6

Wait until the cleaning process finishes running and unplug the Officejet's power cable. Plug the cable back in after five seconds and tap the "Menu" button again. Navigate to "Maintenance" and hit "OK."

  7. 7

Navigate to the "Align Print Cartridges" option and hit "OK" to start the alignment process again.

Tips and warnings

  • If the printer still doesn't properly print an alignment page, you may need to completely uninstall and reinstall the printer's driver software. Navigate through the "Start" menu to "All Programs" and "HP" and select "Uninstall." Insert the printer's installation disc after the uninstall process finishes and follow the installation directions on the screen. Return to the "Align Print Cartridges" option on the printer's control panel and hit "OK."
