How to Get My Contact From One iPhone to a New iPhone

These days, it's crucial not to lose data or contact information when you switch from one phone or cell phone provider to another because your Rolodex probably doesn't exist outside of your phone. In the case of updating your phone with another model of the same, it seems that this process should be streamlined; with the iPhone, it is. Transfer your old iPhone numbers and contacts using iTunes Backup Manager on PC and iTunes on Macs.

Instructions

    On a Mac

  1. 1

    Run an update check to make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. If not, download the updates.

    Restart iTunes and connect your old iPhone to your computer via USB port.

    Select the iPhone from the left column of the iTunes bar and click "Sync" in the window displayed.

    Unplug your old iPhone from the USB cable and replace it with the new iPhone. Now the new iPhone will be connected to your computer.

    Find the iPhone name on the left side of your iTunes screen and click on it.

    Click "Sync" at the bottom right side of the page to transfer all of your data onto the new iPhone.

    On a PC

    Download iTunes Backup Manager from Apple.

    Connect the old iPhone to your PC using a USB cable.

    Download iTunes Backup Manager from Apple.

    Open iTunes and click on the iPhone name on the left bar of the window.

    Click "Back up" in the window displayed to back up all of the contacts and information in the old iPhone before closing iTunes.

    Close iTunes and open iTunes Backup Manager.

    Select the old phone on the left to open the contents of the phone.

    Check the boxes with file paths that end in "AddressBook" or "AddressBookImages."

    Find "Export" under the File menu at the top of the page.

    Check the boxes for "Export only Checked Files" and "Export with Backup Information" before clicking "OK."

    Disconnect the old iPhone and connect the new iPhone to the USB cable going into the computer.

    Open iTunes Backup Manager and click on the new iPhone on the left.

    Go to "Import" under the "File" menu and find the files that you just exported. Click "OK."

    Find "Restore" under the File menu and check "Restore only Modified Files" before clicking "OK."

    Disconnect the iPhone from the computer and check that the contacts have been successfully transferred to your new iPhone.
