AOL (America Online) provides broadband Internet service that is much faster than a dial-up connection. AOL offers broadband through various cable and DSL providers and allows you to use the AOL software through the connection. A Netgear wireless router can be configured to connect to AOL so that more than one computer can use the connection simultaneously.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Turn on the Netgear device and click on the "Network" icon in the Windows system tray. Select "Netgear" as the wireless network connection. Log in to the Netgear device by going to or, depending on the router model. Enter your username and password.

  2. 2

Click "Setup Wizard" on the left menu and click "Yes." Click "Next" so the wizard can detect the Internet connection. Click "Next" when the wizard detects the connection and enter your AOL username and password. Click "Apply."

  3. 3

Click "ADSL Settings" on the left menu. Select "LLC-Based" from the "Multiplexing Method" drop-down menu. Enter "0" in the "VPI" field and "38" in the "VCI" field. Click "Apply" to save the changes. You can now access the AOL Internet service through any web browser and use the AOL software.
