How to Convert Women's Shoe Size to Men's

Updated March 23, 2017

Sometimes you will find a pair of shoes that could be either a woman's or a man's. Tennis shoes or boots would be examples of this. Then there are the times where a shoe is not available in the woman's section but a similar shoe is available in the men's department. Each of these cases require you to convert the size of the men's shoe in order for the shoe to fit correctly.

Measure the length of your foot by tracing the outline of your foot on a piece of paper and then use a ruler to measure its length and width. Alternatively you could have your foot professionally measured at a shoe store.

Subtract two sizes from your women's shoe size, using your measurements as a guide. For example, if your foot measures a women's size 8, then you would want to find a men's shoe in size 6.

Use a conversion chart to determine the size shoe you should buy in men's shoes if you are buying shoes from another country. Sizes differ, and even though the general rule is to always subtract two, if you are buying from overseas you might be disappointed. Look at the shoe conversion chart and find out what the shoe size converts to in U.S sizes. Then subtract two in order to get near to the correct men's size.
