How to show the connection speed on a taskbar
Though Windows no longer displays connection speed, external programs do. (ethernet image by Emmanuel Bergère from Fotolia.com)

Your task bar's connection icon tells you whether you are connected to the Internet. The icon provided other information in older Windows versions, including your connection speed, but Windows 7 removed that feature. A number of free third-party programs, however, will display your connection speed in the task bar.
