How to Replace Mascarpone

Updated February 21, 2017

Mascarpone is a creamy fresh cheese with a high fat content. It adds a mild richness to dishes such as tiramisu. If you cannot find mascarpone, you can replace it with a combination of cream cheese and whipping cream or with creme fraiche. These substitutes will approximate the mild taste and smooth, creamy texture associated with mascarpone.

Combine the cream cheese and whipping cream in a bowl.

Mix the ingredients with a hand or stand mixer on low speed until they're completely blended.

Replace each cup of mascarpone in your recipe with the cream cheese and whipping cream mixture or with one cup of creme fraiche.

Things You'll Need

  • ¾ cup cream cheese
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
  • Hand or stand mixer
  • or 1 cup creme fraiche
