Volkswagen has a distinct procedure for programming its key remotes, and the method is the same regardless of the model. It's important that you have on hand a programmed key which can be used to program an extra key for your vehicle. You can also get one from your local VW dealer, but purchasing one from the company can be extremely costly.

Things you need
- Main key
Put the VW key that you wish to program into the vehicle's ignition. Move the key to the "On" point, but don't turn the engine over.
Exit the vehicle and shut the door on the driver's side. Hold the main key then pop it in the door lock. Turn the key toward the right. The door is now locked. The locking of the door is an integral part of the programming process. Take out the key.
Push the key's "Unlock" switch. Wait 10 seconds. Depress "Unlock" again.
Take the key out of the ignition. The VW key is now programmed.
