How to Get Rid of a Musty Smell in Bathroom Towels

Updated February 21, 2017

If you have stored bathroom towels in a damp place for a long period of time, or if you threw a wet towel into the hamper and let it sit for several days without washing, you are left with musty smelling towels that no one wants to use. Your normal laundry cycle doesn't always remove the musty smell, leaving you in need of a stronger cleaning routine. This can be done by adding an extra element to your wash cycle that deodorises and disinfects.

Turn on your washing machine, using a warm water cycle.

Pour in your normal amount of washing powder and add 1 cup white vinegar to the washing machine as well. The vinegar naturally deodorises, getting rid of the musty smell immediately.

Let the washing machine finish its wash cycle and place the towels in the dryer. Dry as you normally would.

Things You'll Need
