The Kirby Sentria is the latest model of the vacuum that also detaches to turn into a carpet shampooer. The shampooer uses only 20 per cent moisture in its foam-powered solution, so it dries quickly and is simple to use. Most Kirby Sentria customers use the carpet shampooer as an upright, yet you can also convert it into a hand-held in case you want to use it on carpeted stairs or on small, tricky areas.

Vacuum your carpet with the Kirby before you begin shampooing. Convert your Kirby into a hand-held vacuum. If the upright attachment is currently on the power plant (the base vacuum itself), remove it by pressing the button on the clasp and pulling out (like a seat belt). In that same place, click in the hand-held attachment.
Install the shampooer onto the Kirby. Click the shield onto the brush, and click the brush onto tray. Hook the nozzle over the tray and brush, and then secure the nozzle onto the Kirby.
Fill the shampoo tank with water and shampoo appropriate for the cleaner. The tank has three lines on the side, designating measurements. If you fill up to the first line with water, then use one capful of shampoo. If you fill up to two lines, then two capfuls, and use three capfuls if you fill water up to the third line.
Install the shampoo tank onto the power plant. The shampoo tank clicks into the place in the same area as the vacuum bag. Make sure the sponge and suds screen on the bottom of the tank are intact. Connect the hose to the tray and shampoo tank.
Lower the power plant as close the carpet as possible. Use the seven-level adjuster above the left wheel of the power plant to lower the tray.
Turn on the Kirby. When you are ready to lay down foam, turn the knob on the shampoo tank to the "on" position. Push forward and pull back slowly to lay down the foam. Click the knob into the "off" position when all the foam is laid out. Keep the foam on the carpet for about five minutes.
Pull up the foam by using the same process in the previous step to lay down the foam, except with the shampooer in the "off" position. The carpet will be moist for about 15 to 20 minutes and will still be safe to walk on.
Detach the carpet shampooer. The tray will likely be filled with foam, so clean it out in the sink. Take apart and rinse out all of the parts except for the brush. Leave out the brush to be air-dried.
Tips and warnings
- If the shampooer keeps falling off as you use it, the rubber belt on the brush is not hooked up to the nozzle correctly. Turn the knob so the hook on the inside turns and catches on the brush's rubber belt, then turn the knob back to the original position.
