How to Clean a Faux Fur Blanket at Home

Updated February 21, 2017

Faux fur blankets are popular as they are much less costly than authentic fur, harm no animals during creation of the blankets and are more present in department stores and home furnishings stores. Many people may think that dry cleaning is the only way to get the faux fur clean, but the chemicals used in dry cleaning can actually stiffen and reduce the softness of your faux fur blanket. Instead, wash the blanket in your washing machine with the proper care routine.

Turn your washing machine on with a large load size and cold water setting.

Pour in your normal mild washing powder, using the type designed for delicates and undergarments. Make sure the detergent contains no bleaching agents.

Open the blanket and place into the washing machine. Let the machine finish the wash cycle.

Remove the damp blanket and hang or lay flat to dry. Never put the blanket in the dryer as this can cause the blanket to fall apart.

Carry the blanket outdoors and shake to release any loosened strands of fur.
