Removing the top of your HP colour LaserJet 2600N is one of the best ways to get to hard-to-reach paper jams or to begin troubleshooting mechanical issues on your printer. Since it's only a cover, it is normally safe for even a non-technician to remove, and because it is right on top of the machine, removal is fairly quick.

- Phillips #2 magnetised screwdriver
- Small flat-blade screwdriver
Power off and unplug the printer. Locate and remove the two screws for the right cover of the printer. The first can be found at the bottom of the slotted area at the back right side of the machine where the ethernet cord plugs in. The second is located along the middle bottom right side of the machine.
Remove the right cover located on the right side of the machine. You must carefully twist the front edge of the cover to pull it off. Lift the paper delivery tray on the top of the printer out and back to remove it.
Locate the control panel cable. It comes down the right side of the printer a few inches and plugs into the upper left side of the small square board. Disconnect it from the board.
Lift up and remove the upper face cover on the top of the printer. Remove the four screws in each corner of the top cover to free it. Lift the top cover up and out of the printer.
