VBS, or Visual Basic Script, is a type of file format used by Windows operating systems as well as by the Internet Explorer Web browser. You can edit a VBS file by using text editors such as Notepad and WordPad. Encrypting a VBS file can make it secure from unauthorised access. You can use a built-in encryption tool called the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) to encrypt a VBS file.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Open Windows Explorer and use it to go to the location of the VBS file that you want to encrypt.

  2. 2

Right-click the VBS file and select the option labelled "Properties."

  3. 3

Open the VBS file's "Advanced Attributes" dialogue box. Under the "General" tab, click the button labelled "Advanced."

  4. 4

Enable the option labelled "Encrypts Contents..." by checking the box next to it.

  5. 5

Click "OK" to save the changes. Click "Apply" to encrypt the VBS file.
