Many Garmin GPS devices come with a portable suction cup mount that attaches to the windshield. Windshield mounts can leave unsightly rings on the window. Dashboard mounts can be used instead. Some Garmins come with a dashboard mount. Dashboard mounts can also be purchased separately and configured with many Garmin GPS devices. One such device can be purchased as an accessory and utilises a wider mounting base. A second type of dashboard mount comes with some Garmin devices and resembles a windshield mount.

Things you need
- Dashboard mounting kit (includes adhesive, mounting base and suction bracket)
- Towel and cleaning solution such as rubbing alcohol
Clean the intended area of the dash where you will place the dashboard mount with the included alcohol pad. You can also clean with rubbing alcohol and a clean towel, if you don't have the included pad. Let the area dry completely.
Remove the backing from the adhesive pad on the base of the safety hook.
Put the adhesive base of the hook on the dash. Make sure the hook is curved toward the windshield. Hold the hook in place for about one minute with your hand. Additionally, allow the hook to cure for at least 24 hours at room temperature, or about 22.2 degrees Celsius, before moving on to the next step.
Place the loop on the back of the dashboard mount around the safety hook. Position the dashboard mount so it is in front of the hook on the dashboard. Also take off the protective film from the pedestal mounting surface.
Position the lever up on the pedestal mount. Place the suction cup of the pedestal mount in the centre off the dashboard mount in the pedestal mounting surface.
Move the locking lever on the pedestal mount down to secure the pedestal to the dash mount. Tighten the knob on the right of the pedestal mount to adjust the angle of the pedestal arm.
Insert the socket on the rear of the Garmin GPS device onto the ball of the pedestal mounting bracket until it is firmly in place.
Clean and dry the area where you will place the mount. You can use a moist towel or rubbing alcohol and a dry towel to clean the area. Let the area dry completely.
Remove the film from the adhesive on the base of the mounting disk.
Place the disk on the dashboard.
Position the suction cup of the mount on top of the disk with the mount lever up. When in place, pull the mount lever down to secure the suction cup to the disk. Verify that the mount is securely in place by adding some force to try to destabilise it with your hand.
Insert the socket on the rear of the Garmin GPS device onto the ball of the mounting bracket until it is firmly in place.
