How to Restore a File That Was Removed by Microsoft Essentials

When Microsoft Security Essentials removes a file from your operating system, it stores the file in quarantine and does not permit your operating system access to the file until you either choose to restore it or delete it all together. If you want to restore a file, log in to Microsoft Security Essentials and follow procedures for restoration.

    Open Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Click "View Details" to see all items in Windows 7 or Windows Vista. If you are using Windows XP, you will be prompted for log on first.

    Locate the item you want to restore in the list of details.

    Click "Restore" adjacent to the item.

  • Do not restore software with severe or high alert ratings. Doing so can put your computer at risk.
