How to make men look older
A more professional look comes with glasses and a business suit. (serious businessman with eyeglasses image by Nikolay Okhitin from

While it's often assumed that everyone wants to appear young, it can actually work against some people, especially in the professional world. Women often work hard to fight the signs of ageing, while men are considered distinguished and perhaps even more handsome as they get older.

If you are a man who wants to appear older, you can use clothing and grooming to achieve the look you want. You may enhance your professional and personal life by moving from the youthful appearance of a boy to a distinguished and confident man.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Grow facial hair. A hairless face often looks younger, especially if a man has full cheeks. A goatee, or even a beard or moustache, makes a man look instantly older.

  2. 2

Choose more sophisticated clothing styles. Rather than buying and wearing T-shirts from the juniors department, wear tailored jeans, jackets and dress shoes. If you wear suits for work, invest in the highest quality you can afford. Have them tailored to perfectly fit your frame.

  3. 3

Cut your hair so it's short and neat. Long, shaggy hair without a defined style is a youthful look. Instead, choose a haircut and style that looks professional.

  4. 4

Wear eyeglasses. Even if you don't need vision correction, purchase a pair of sleek, wire-framed glasses without correction.
