Scrapping your old cell phone for cash is a sound idea, not only financially but environmentally, too. Cell phones contain lead, which makes them unsafe for landfill disposal. Cell phones also contain metals, such as copper and platinum that can be melted down and used to make new cells or other electronic products. Consequently, several companies will now pay cash for the old cell phone languishing in the bottom of your drawer.

Visit the Pace Butler website, pacebutler.com. Input your details into the printable label form on the left hand side of the screen.
Print out the label you have just completed online and affix it to a padded envelope or box. This means you do not have to pay postage. The label also contains Pace Butler's shipping address.
Put your old cell into the envelope or box and take it to your postal office. Pace Butler will only pay for functioning phones but it does accept non-working phones for recycling. The company promises to mail out a check within four business days of receiving your working cell phone.
Visit the My Gold Envelope website, mygoldenvelope.com. Fill out the form on the right hand side on the screen. My Gold Envelope will send you an e-mail containing further instructions.
Wait for your tear resistant prepaid envelope to arrive in the mail. Put your old cell phone into the envelope.
Post the envelope back to My Gold Envelope. It promises to process your check within 48 hours of receiving your old cell phone. Note that phone payouts by My Gold Envelope are determined by the "age, make & model, functionality and cosmetic condition" of your phone. Broken phones more than two years old are recycled without payment.
Visit the Cell For Cash website, cellforcash.com. Select the make and model of the phone you want to sell using the drop-down menu.
Look to see if your phone is worth any money. Prices are given for some phones, others have a recycling label, meaning Cell For Cash will recycle the phone free of charge, without payment to you.
Click on the phone if you are happy with the price offered. Press the "sell this phone" tab at the bottom of the screen.
Enter your contact details, including e-mail address. You have the option of printing a pre-addressed label from the site or receiving a pre-addressed box from the company. Both are freepost. Select an option, check the terms & conditions box, and click on the "sell this phone" tab at the bottom of the screen.
Print out a label or wait for your box to arrive. Package your phone and send it back to Cell For Cash. Note that the phone must be working for a payment to be made. Cell For Cash promises to make payment within 45 days of verifying your phone.
