For owners of a Chrysler PT Cruiser, the vehicle may come equipped with a Sentry Key Immobilizer System. The Sentry key helps to mitigate the risk of theft by shutting down the engine if someone tries to start the vehicle with the wrong key. Authorised Sentry keys have an embedded transponder chip. This chip stores a programmed code that must match with the car's computer when starting the engine.

Your dashboard display light then responds by flashing for three seconds to signify successful programming. Turn your key to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition.

Tips and warnings

  • If you do not have two programmed Sentry keys, you'll need to take the car to a Chrysler dealership, not a locksmith, to program a new key. Only a Chrysler dealership has authorisation to perform such services. You must bring all the keys with you, including the blank key.
