How to Use After Shave Balm

Updated February 21, 2017

Shaving can cause all sorts of skin irritation, from chaffing to small nicks in the skin. Using a regular aftershave can add to the irritation due to the high alcohol content of most aftershave products. An alternative to using standard aftershave is using aftershave balm. Aftershave balms contain moisturising ingredients, such as lanolin and aloe, that help to soothe the skin.

Shave your face using hot water, a quality razor and a shaving cream that contains moisturising ingredients.

Rinse your face thoroughly once you are done shaving and pat it dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Place a quarter-sized amount of aftershave balm into one of your palms and rub the lotion between your hands for a few seconds.

Rub the aftershave balm onto your face over the areas that you shaved. Rub gently rather than vigorously and continue rubbing until your skin has absorbed the balm (that is, there is no more visible balm on the skin).
