Buy two 1000 ohm resistors online or from your local electronics store, along with a desired length of jumper wire to connect all the components. The resistances of the two resistors purchased should be equal because you will be dividing the battery voltage exactly in half.
Connect the resistors end to end to the positive terminal of the battery using some jumper wire. Connect them by twisting the jumper wire ends around the component ends; this configuration is called a series configuration.
