How to Find a Compound Pharmacy in My Area

Updated February 21, 2017

Compounding refers to the mixing of drugs to meet a patient's specific needs. Though they exist, compounding pharmacies are far less commonplace than more popular chemists that carry only manufactured medications. If you have a customised prescription that needs filling, you can search online for a compound pharmacy in your area.

Ask the doctor who wrote your prescription to recommend a compound pharmacy in your area. If the doctor does not know of one in your neighbourhood specifically, he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Access the Internet and type "compound pharmacy" into a search engine, followed by the name of your city or area. This should generate a list of those located in or near your neighbourhood.

Use the compound pharmacist locator on the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists website. This database of over 2,000 registered professionals might have a listing for a pharmacist who serves your area.
