How to Clean Clear Bands on Braces

Updated April 17, 2017

Ceramic braces are gaining in popularity as they are far less visible than their metal counterpart. The brackets used for ceramic braces are bonded to individual teeth and made out of clear or tooth-coloured materials to match your existing tooth colour. Clear bands are often used in conjunction with ceramic braces to maintain an "invisible" appearance. However, clear bands are subject to staining.

Avoid foods and beverages with strong colourants, such as, coffee, tea, wine, soda, ketchup, blueberries, or even tobacco.

Brush your teeth after every meal and especially if you have had a strongly coloured beverage or food.

Brush and rinse with whitening toothpaste and mouthwash at night and in the mornings.

Visit your orthodontist every month to have your clear bands replaced.

The best solutions to keeping clear bands stain free is avoiding staining foods and brushing often.
