Windows Safe Mode is a restricted version of Windows that loads only default system components and a very limited set of drivers. You can change your product key from Safe Mode if you have downloaded the Windows XP product key to your Windows desktop. You will need to use "Safe Mode with Networking" to retrieve the Product Key Update Tool from the Microsoft website while using Safe Mode.
