How to Locate My Phone Using GPS

Updated April 17, 2017

GPS on a smart phone uses satellites to track your position and place it on a map, eliminating the need for expensive hardware such as a Garmin. GPS can also find your lost phone.

Verify that your phone has GPS capabilities and that you are currently utilising those capabilities through your service provider.

Decide on a server that will provide your GPS location in real time. Registering at a site like Instamapper.com is free.

Download the instamapper application to your GPS-enabled phone.

Run the program for the first time. It will prompt you with settings to fill in.

Log in to your instamapper account. You will now see the current location of your phone plotted on an interactive Google map. This map will automatically update every few seconds.

Things You'll Need

  • Phone with enabled GPS
  • Service provider that has GPS
  • Instamapper.com account
