Scenting pinecones is a festive way to bring the scents of Christmas into your home. Pinecones make great fire starters. Before you toss them, use them to create home fresh scents. Instructions

  1. 1

Mix pickling spice, cinnamon and cloves in a bowl. Add oils like sandalwood, orange, cinnamon or balsam. Mix thoroughly in the bowl. Create different scents by preparing bowls of vanilla oil, orange oil, or wintergreen to give your pinecone bouquet a variety.

  2. 2

Place the pinecones in a large plastic container. Arrange them so they form a single layer in the bottom. You can also use a plastic bag. Spray the pinecones with the adhesive spray directly into the container, aiming away from your face to keep from breathing the fumes. Cover the container and shake to turn the pine cones over and repeat the process to ensure the pinecones are coated completely.

  3. 3

Pour the pickling spice and oil mixture over the pinecones. Close the container and shake the container to distribute the mixture evenly. Empty the pine cones into an open flat dish and let them dry. To intensify the aroma, seal the pinecones in a plastic zipper bag or allow them to remain covered in the plastic container for up to seven days.

  4. 4

Add pinecones to baskets for gift giving or display in your home to make the rooms smell fresh. Use mesh bags or colourful cellophane wrap to festively display the scented pinecones. When the smell starts to diminish, toss them in the fireplace for that last burst of fragrance.

Tips and warnings
