Windows Media Player 12 is a specific feature to Windows 7, and must be removed by turning off your "Media Features" within Windows. This will also uninstall Windows Media Center, which, according to Microsoft, is "dependent on Windows Media Player."

    Turn on your computer and click the "Start" icon in the bottom left of your computer's main screen.

    Click "Control Panel" and select "Programs" > "Programs and Features."

    Click "Turn Windows Features On or Off" on the left side of the screen.

    Scroll down the page and press the "+" sign next to "Media Features." Click the box next to "Windows Media Player" and press "OK."

    Click "Yes" to remove Windows Media Player 12 when prompted by the dialogue box warning you that Windows Media Center will also be deleted.
