The Rival slow cooker, known more commonly as the Crock Pot, allows cooks to start a meal in the morning and have it ready at dinnertime without having to constantly supervise cooking. The Crock Pot is available in sizes ranging from 4 to 7 quarts, a variety of colours and with manual or electronic controls. No matter what type of Rival slow cooker you own, it is easy to use, and with the removable crock, also easy to clean.
Brown roasts in a heavy skillet with 2 to 3 Tbsp oil, if you want the roasted look to your meat at the end of the cooking process. A slow cooker will brown chicken and turkey, but pork, beef and venison benefit from pre-browning.
Place prepared vegetables in the cooker and place the meat on top of the vegetables. Add 1/4 cup of water, broth or bouillon.
Cover the Crock Pot and turn the temperature to the low setting. Allow the food to cook for 8 to 10 hours, without lifting the lid of the slow cooker.
Cook soups, stew and chillies by combining ingredients and then turning the cooker to the lowest setting. Allow the soup, stew or chilli to cook for 7 to 8 hours.
Heat cheese dips and other hot dips for 4 to 5 hours before serving. The slow cooker will keep them at the proper serving temperature.
Cook grains, such as oatmeal and bulgar wheat, overnight in the slow cooker to wake up to breakfast the next morning.
Always wash the inside of the crock of your slow cooker before use. This will remove any dust or debris inside.
