Available for pocket PCs and Smartphones, Windows CE is a minimalist version of the Windows operating system. Since mobile devices have very limited memory to begin with, suspending and restarting Windows CE requires an information dump from the RAM cache to an attached USB device. Failure to allow for the cache clearing will result in lost information and an error message upon reboot.

Instructions

  1. 1

Plug a USB card or other storage drive into the device's USB port and give the device enough time to recognise the drive.

  2. 2

Press the power button on the device. This will place it in "suspend" mode.

  3. 3

Wait for 5 to 10 seconds. The device needs this time to move information from the RAM to the USB.

  4. 4

Press the reset button. This will perform a "soft" restart where the device doesn't turn off. To remove the battery the phone needs to be turned completely off or errors may occur.

Tips and warnings

  • Your specific device may have a different procedure for a restart. The main issue is to give the device time to save to the USB before restarting or shutting down.
