In addition to the popular video game, LEGO Batman was a series of LEGO sets made with DC Comics' permission to use the characters from the Batman universe. The sets are harder to find when LEGO isn't actively producing them. If you want to make your own LEGO Batman minifig, you may need to customise an existing Minifig in order to make your own. This requires some crafting skills and drawing ability to make a confincing figurine.
- Skill level:
- Moderately Easy
Things you need
- LEGO minifigs
- LEGO motorcycle helmet
- Black modelling clay
- Clay crafting tools
- Sticker paper and markers or paint and Masking tape
- Black fabric
- Utility knife
Build a LEGO minifig using black or dark grey legs and torso. Add yellow or black hands and a plain face. Put a black motorcycle helmet on his head.
Stick modelling clay on the helmet, and shape it to form the ears on Batman's cowl. The ears should point straight up, and be about 1/4-inch tall. You can see some reference photos at the links under References. Remove the helmet and leave the clay to dry overnight.
Draw or paint the Batman Logo and outfit on a sticker or the torso of the model. If you use a sticker, cut it out of the page and stick it on the figurine.
Print out or freehand draw a cape template on a piece of paper. You can find a good template under Resources. Draw points at the bottom of the cape, cutting into the cape itself.
Pin the template onto the fabric and cut the cape out. Make sure to cut out the holes in the two flaps.
Pop off the Minifig's head, slip the two flaps onto the neck, then replace the head.
Place the helmet back on the Minifig's head, and pose your new Batman figurine.
Tips and warnings
- If you can get your hands on a LEGO Batman set, it will include a pre-made LEGO Batman figurine, including his cowl, cape and utility belt. Some sets also include Batarang accessories.
