Motorcycle light-emitting diode (LED) accent light kits have become increasingly popular as custom motorcycle builders look for new ways to attract more attention to their creations. While installation is simple, it takes some planning to decide how to highlight the motorcycle and its distinctive components. Anyone can stick an LED light pod or strip on their motorcycle, but placing the LED lights to maximise their effects while minimising their obtrusiveness is an art.

Instructions

    Control Module Installation

  1. 1

Remove the motorcycle's seat to access the battery compartment. Select a location in or near the battery compartment to mount the LED accent light's control module.

  2. 2

Clean the mounting area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe. Peel the backing from the control module's mounting tape. Place the module on the mounting area and press firmly for 30 seconds.

  3. 3

Connect the control module's positive battery cable, identified by the in-line fuse near the cable's terminal, to the battery. Use a Phillips screwdriver to screw the cable onto the battery's positive terminal.

  4. 4

Connect the module's black ground wire to the battery's negative terminal using a Phillips screwdriver.

    Installing the LED Lights

  1. 1

Plan your desired accent points on the motorcycle, such as the top and sides of the motor, front and rear fenders, the space below the motorcycle's frame or under fairing panels.

  2. 2

Use an Allen wrench to remove any body panels or fairings necessary to access the motorcycle's frame and any desired mounting points.

  3. 3

Hold the light pods or strips against each mounting point and check that they do not interfere with the operation of the front fork, wheels, rear suspension or motor.

  4. 4

Clean the mounting points with alcohol wipes. Peel the backing from the mounting tape on the back of the light pods or strips. Place the light onto the mounting point and press firmly for 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Route the lights' wiring to the control module, following the motorcycle's existing wiring harness whenever possible. Secure the wiring to the motorcycle's frame or wiring using nylon cable ties.

  6. 6

Plug the light's wiring into the control module.

    Installing the Control Switch

  1. 1

Select an easily accessible but concealed location on the motorcycle to mount the control switch. Suitable locations include the area under the seat, beside the speedometer, below the fuel tank or behind a fairing panel.

  2. 2

Clean the mounting area with an alcohol wipe. Peel the backing from the mounting tape on the side of the control switch. Place the switch onto the mounting point and press firmly for 30 seconds.

  3. 3

Route the control switch's wiring to the control module. Follow existing wiring whenever possible. Use nylon cable ties to secure the loose wiring to the frame.

  4. 4

Plug the switch's wiring into the control module.

  5. 5

Flip the switch into the "On" position. Check that all lights are illuminated. Check the wiring connection at the control module if any of the lights fail to illuminate.
