    Cleaning the Trackball

  1. 1

Power down your phone by pressing and holding down the "Hang Up/Power" button for three seconds.

  2. 2

Hold the nozzle of the can of compressed air directly above the trackball. Press down the air can's button to shoot a blast of air into the area around the trackball. Move the can around the trackball in a circular motion while you're blasting the air. This will help remove any debris, dirt or even sand that is stuck behind the ball.

  3. 3

Place an antimicrobial hand wipe over the ball. Press the trackball down using your finger over the hand wipe. Roll the ball around to throughly clean the ball with the wipe.

  4. 4

Repeat Step 2 to thoroughly dry the ball. Turn your phone back on, and use your trackball as normal. If cleaning the ball doesn't solve your problem, then your ball may be broken. Skip to Section 2 to replace the trackball.

    Replacing the Trackball

  1. 1

Power down your phone. Notice that there is a silver disk surrounding the trackball. This silver disk needs to be removed in order to remove the trackball.

  2. 2

Insert the tip of a flathead screwdriver--or another small but sturdy object--in between the silver disk and the face of the phone. Use the screwdriver to the pry the disk up, popping it out of the phone. Set the disk aside.

  3. 3

Remove the trackball from your phone by simply grabbing it with your fingernails. You may also flip your phone over so the trackball falls right out.

  4. 4

Insert the new trackball into the trackball slot. Align the prongs on the trackball with the prongs inside the phone. Press down on the trackball to snap it into place. You can purchase a new trackball from many different online stores.

  5. 5

Place the silver disk back around the trackball, and press down on it to snap it back into place.
