How to Order or Download a Satellite Recovery CD in Toshiba
Unfortunately, most computers no longer come with recovery discs. (holding compact disc image by Stasys Eidiejus from

Computer companies often include a "recovery partition" on computers' hard drives instead of bundling recovery discs with their products. While this helps their bottom line, many people find that they either prefer or actually need recovery discs in order to repair or reinstall software on their computer. Ordering recovery discs from Toshiba takes only minutes, though it does cost money. While Toshiba says that there is no charge for the software or discs themselves, there is a fee that covers "shipping and handling."

Skill level:

  1. 1

Go to Toshiba's main website (see Resources). Locate "Services and Support" at the top of the page.

  2. 2

Move your cursor over "Services and Support" (do not click on it) and a menu will drop down from it. Click on "Consumer Products."

  3. 3

Click on the "Warranty Center" link under "Laptops, Multimedia Notebooks, & Accessories."

  4. 4

Click on the "acclaim self-service" link in the upper-right part of the page. Then find and click on the "acclaim recovery media" link.

  5. 5

Enter your product's serial number and product number as prompted by the ordering system. Then select the recovery media you want to order and click "Continue."

  6. 6

Enter your shipping and billing info as prompted to complete your order. You will be e-mailed an order confirmation and given an arrival estimate for your discs.

Tips and warnings

  • Be sure that you want or need the recovery discs before you spend the money to order them. Toshiba laptops that do not come with recovery discs have a recovery partition that allows you to restore your computer without recovery discs. Additionally, these laptops come with software that allows you to create your own recovery discs (see Resources).
