An event with a Hollywood theme needs decorations that make people think of the Southern California city of sunshine, palm trees and movie stars. Although many stores sell Hollywood decorations, you can make your own inexpensively to give your party the visual feel you were imagining. Guests will enjoy seeing your versions of familiar Hollywood landmarks and scenes.
Cut a piece of cardboard or poster board measuring 15 inches tall by 12 inches wide. Cut a rectangle measuring 12 inches tall by 9 inches wide out of the centre of that to leave a frame. This will help keep your letter sizes consistent on your Hollywood sign.
Set the frame on another piece of cardboard or poster board and draw the outline for a block letter "H" that extends the full height of the frame and no more than the width of the frame.
Move the frame to a new location on the cardboard or poster board and draw the outline for the next block letter. Repeat this process until you have spelt the whole word "Hollywood."
Set the cardboard or poster board on a cutting mat and cut out each of the letters on its outline with a craft knife.
Place your Hollywood sign in a visible location in the party. Some options include taping the letters to a coloured wall, propping them up on the lawn outside or taping them to a long strip of coloured paper and fabric and hanging it in the party.
Extend a strip of red fabric out the door at the entrance to the party to create a red carpet entrance. The fabric should measure 3 feet wide by at least 8 feet long.
Cut star shapes out of gold foil wrapping paper. Glue each star to a black square of paper to mimic the look of the tiles on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Place the tiles on the floor, hang them from the walls or hang them from the ceiling with fishing line.
Spread a black tablecloth over the food table and sprinkle shiny red, gold and silver glitter over it. Set up candles on the table to create light for the glitter to reflect.
To make your Hollywood sign more realistic, look closely at a photo of the real Hollywood sign before making yours. Pay special attention to the shapes of the capital block letters used for the sign and mimic them when making your own.
