Windows media video (WMV) files are video compression files that are played using programs like Windows Media Player. When videos are converted or recorded in the WMV file format, there are occasionally errors that may cause the file to not function properly. By downloading a WMV repair program, you can often fix the file so that it will play on your computer. Keep in mind that not all file errors can be fixed and that the file may need to be reobtained from the original video source.

Instructions

  1. 1

Download a WMV repair program. Several options include Steeper, ASF-AVI-RM-WMV Repair and WM Recorder 14. These instructions will be for the program ASF-AVI-RM-WMV. The steps taken for each process in the other programs are very similar.

  2. 2

Install and open the program. Click on the "Add File" button to add your broken WMV file to the queue. Click on the "Repair" icon. This will start your repair and it will create a new WMV file. The new file will appear in the folder in which you installed the program.
