Soulseek is one of many free file sharing network applications available on the Internet. Although its primary use is to share music, many different forms of media can also be shared using the program. The Soulseek application only works on the Windows operating system, and is available for download directly from the official Soulseek website. In order to take advantage of the features of the Soulseek program, you must properly set up the application.

    Right-click on an open area of the desktop, then select "New Folder" from the pop-up list. Name the folder "slsk." This folder will be used to store media files from Soulseek. Double-click the folder to open it, then click "File" and select "New" from the drop-down list followed by "New folder." Rename the folder "Incoming," then create another folder and rename it "Shared."

    Go to the Soulseek website. (See Resources) Click "Download" located on the left-side of the web page. Click "SoulSeek Client 156c" under "Latest original client version." The Soulseek Download dialogue box will open.

    Click "Save" then select a location on your hard drive to save the Soulseek installation files, then click "OK." Double-click the downloaded file to open the Soulseek installation wizard. Follow the instructions to install Soulseek. For example, agree to the terms of service and choose a location to store the program.

    Launch the Soulseek program. Enter a user name and password in the "User Configuration" box, then press "OK."

    Click the "File Sharing" tab. The "File Sharing Settings" window will open. Click the "Select save folder" button and navigate to the new "Incoming" folder you created. Files you download will transfer into this folder. Double-click it and the name will populate the "Save folder for downloaded files" box. Click the "Add shared folder" button and navigate to the new "Shared" folder. Files you want to share with other Soulseek users can be stored in this folder. Double-click it and it will appear in the "Shared Folders" box. Click the "OK" button to save the settings.

    Click the "Transfers" tab, then select the maximum download and upload speeds for file transfers, and the maximum number of simultaneous downloads and uploads. Click the "OK" button to save the settings.

    Type a keyword into the search bar that describes the type of file you are looking for to begin using the application.
