How to Unlock an Alba DVD Player

Updated February 21, 2017

The Alba DVD player's operating system shares a locking mechanism present in other minor brand DVD players--preventing it from playing a DVD made for use in another part of the world. Unlocking the Alba DVD player allows the operating system to bypass this and play the DVD. The remote that comes with the Alba and a commercial DVD (of any kind, movie or TV show) are all that is needed. Neither the DVD player nor the DVD being played will be negatively affected by the player having been unlocked.

Point the Alba's remote control at the DVD player's front control panel. Press the "On" button. Eject the tray by pressing the "Eject" button.

Press the "System" button. Scroll down the list on the screen until you come to "NTSC." Select "NTSC" by pressing the "Select" button in the middle of the remote.

Place a DVD on the disc tray. Close the tray by pressing the "Eject" button.

Press the "System" button as soon as "Loading" appears on the screen. Scroll down the list on the screen until you come to "PAL." Select "PAL" by pressing the "Select" button in the middle of the remote.

Eject the DVD by pressing the "Eject" button. Remove the DVD from the disc tray. Close the disc tray by pressing "Eject" again. Press "On" to turn off the Alba DVD player.

Tip

A homemade DVD will work as well as that of a commercially made DVD.
