How to Get Into CLI on the HP ProCurve 2600

HP ProCurve switches provide both a command-line interface (CLI) and web interface that you can use to configure the switch. The CLI is enabled by default, and so you must use the CLI when configuring the switch for the first time. You can access the CLI by following a simple procedure.

  • HP ProCurve serial console cable
  • Windows XP computer with 9-pin serial port

    Connect one end of the HP serial console cable to the 9-pin connector on the computer.

    Plug the other end of the HP serial console cable into the serial console port on the HP 2600 switch.

    Click the "Start" button on the computer's desktop, then click "Run." Type "hypertrm" in the Run box and press the "Enter" key. The HyperTerminal program will appear.

    Type "HP 2600" in the HyperTerminal window's "Name:" field and press the "Enter" key.

    Click the "Connect using:" drop-down box and select the "Com port" listed that is used to connect the computer to the HP 2600 switch. Press the "Enter" key.

    Select the "Bits per second:" drop-down box, and select the "9600" setting. Click the "Flow Control" drop-down box and click "Xon/Xoff" and press the "Enter" key.

    Power on the HP 2600 switch. Tap the "Enter" key a few times and the HP 2600 command prompt will display.
