Once upon a time, buttermilk was a common item in the dairy isle of grocery stores. Now it has become a hard item to find, as many stores no longer carry it. Buttermilk has a tangy flavour, and is often called for in baking recipes, as its use gives a more tender texture to baked goods. If you have a recipe calling for buttermilk and your grocery store does not carry it---don't fret, as you can quickly make your own from regular milk by using one of four ingredients: vinegar, lemon juice, cream of tartar or plain yoghurt.
