According to the Brother Intellifax-2820s User Guide, the quickest way to send a fax is by pressing the "Fax Mode" button, loading the automated document feeder with a facedown document, manually dialling the phone number and pressing the "Start" key. If the Intellifax-2820 does not send the fax correctly or there is a delayed response, try troubleshooting the problem before arranging costly or unnecessary repairs.

  1. 1

Hang up the phone headset on the fax machine's headset cradle. Picking up the headset or pressing the "Hook/Hold" button will cancel any outgoing faxes.

  2. 2

Resend your fax in overseas mode if you are having problems faxing to an overseas number. Press the "Menu/Set" button, followed by "2," "2" and "9," and then use the arrow keys to select "Yes."

  3. 3

Close the front and back covers of the fax machine. If either cover is open, the 2820 cannot send a fax.

  4. 4

Open the control panel cover to check for jammed paper. Gently pull paper toward the front of the machine to unjam paper. Close the control panel cover and press the "Stop/Exit" button. If paper is too damaged to fax, replace with undamaged paper.

  5. 5

Identify the type and size of the fax paper in the automated document feeder. Replace the paper with letter, legal or A4 type paper only.

Tips and warnings

  • After each use, the interior of the Brother 2820 may be hot, particularly under the front and back cover. Test for hot areas before touching any of the 2820s interior.
