DIY VGA to S Video Cable

Many audio/visual devices such as DVD players, DVRs and VCRs use S-video cables to connect to televisions. It's possible to connect one of these devices to your computer monitor by constructing a simple S-video to VGA converter cable. You can obtain an S-video cable and VGA adaptor inexpensively at any electronics store. Using this adaptor, any device with a S-video port can be connected to a PC monitor or any other VGA port.

  • S-video cable
  • S-video (female) to VGA adaptor

  1. 1

    Connect one end of an S-video cable to the S-video port on the S-video to VGA adaptor.

  2. 2

    Connect the S-video end of this new cable to the S-video port on any audio/visual device.

  3. 3

    Connect the VGA end of the cable to the VGA port on your computer monitor.

  4. 4

    Turn your computer monitor and audio/visual device on. The video signal from the device will appear on your monitor.
