How to Record TV Shows on CD

Updated July 20, 2017

Use your CD burner to record digital video files, including TV shows, to a CD. Windows includes native utilities to assist you in completing the burn process. The Windows Media Center can handle recording a number of different video formats to an optical media. You can then watch the shows in a DVD player that features digital playback or save the CD as a backup.

Click the "Start" button and click "All Programs." Click the "Windows Media Center" listing.

Insert the blank CD and wait for it to be recognised by the disc drive. Click the "Burn a CD" message that appears.

Click "Data CD" in the select format screen and click "Next." Type in a name for the disc and click "Next" again.

Click "TV Show" in the Select Media window and click "Next" to open a file selection window. Click the filename of the TV Show and click "Next." The file will appear in the Windows Media Center interface.

Click "Burn CD" and choose "Yes" in the notification window to begin the burn process. The "Completing Disc Creation" will appear once the process is complete.
