The Canon Pixma MP170 is a colour inkjet printer that uses the Canon PG-40 black ink cartridge and the Canon CL-41 colour ink cartridge. Each of the ink cartridges used by the MP170 can be refilled with ink when they start to run low. Refilling the cartridges is generally less expensive than purchasing new cartridges when they run out. The MP170 tracks the usage of the cartridge to determine when it is empty. If a cartridge is refilled, it must also be reset to continue being used in the MP170.
