Most model years of the BMW 525i track the engine oil life by monitoring internal engine conditions and driving conditions with the on-board computer system. When the computer determines an oil change is needed, an oil service indicator appears on the control panel. When a BMW dealer mechanic performs the maintenance on the 525i, they reset the oil sensor as part of the process. Should you change the oil yourself, you can reset the 525i oil sensor on the control panel.
